In 2011, the Wild Steelhead Coalition teamed up with the Skagit River System Cooperative and Orvis to use drone technology to map out and survey a critical habitat restoration project on the Skagit River, which is home to Puget Sound’s largest winter steelhead run. The project is an ambitious undertaking that will transform Barnaby Slough back into a natural fish factory.

Snake River Salmon have been trucked, put on barges, diverted up fish ladders-all in the hope that enough would get by four dams to reach their historic habitat in numbers that would assure their future. It's not working: It's time to breach the dams and reconnect wild salmon to this important watershed.

A couple seasons ago I swapped fly rod for camera and followed my friend, Rich Zellman as he cast for winter-run steelhead. Over countless days, eye traced rod's path, over and over again. And over again. This is what came of that effort. Respect and special thanks to Patagonia for conscientiously manufacturing and supporting stuff that makes our lives more fun.
